I was pretty much self-taught until 2012, when I started working in quilt shops and learned the "right" way to do things. Since then, there hasn't been much stopping me. I've been working in quilt shops since 2012, and that hands-on experience has deepened my love for fabric, thread, and the quilting community.

What Is a Modern Traditional Quilter?

I consider myself a Modern Traditional Quilter. What does that mean? I love traditional piecing, patchwork, and classic quilt layouts — but I prefer to use modern colors, tonals, and low-volume fabrics. The result is quilts that feel both timeless and fresh.

Lady K Quilts is the creative home of Karen, a modern traditional quilter whose journey with fabric and thread began in 2003. Self-taught in those early years, she discovered a deeper connection to the craft when she started working in quilt shops in 2012, learning time-honored techniques alongside fellow fabric lovers. That hands-on experience transformed her approach, blending the precision she gained from shop life with her original free-spirited style. Today, her studio is a place where bold colors meet classic block designs, and every stitch carries a story. From playful prints to carefully curated fabrics, Karen's work reflects a lifelong love for the art of quilting and the community that surrounds it.
